Yesterday morning, Nicki Minaj performed in Central Park, New York as part of Good Morning America’s Summer Concert Series. Sporting a Barbie inspired wardrobe, the young rapper wore a transparent skirt, pink leggings, pink blazer, and a mint green halter top. It was quite obvious that the halter top loosely fit her as she constantly adjusted it while she was dancing. And she got too preoccupied with her performance, her halter top finally slid down and her left nip did a peek-a-boo. This wardrobe malfunction caused the singer to appear a little flustered; although as anyone would say, the show must go on. Being the professional as she is, she got her groove and composure back and Nicki continued to perform for her fans.
Everybody knows that GMA always does live airings. And Nicki Minaj’s performance only had a five second delay to the live TV broadcast. This short delay was not enough for technicians to blur or bleep the nip of Minaj right on time. This resulted to Minaj’s exposure in some Eastern States. Due to this, ABC immediately released a formal apology to the public for failure to censor the unexpected nip slip of Nicki Minaj. ABC said: “Although we had a five-second delay in place for the Nicki Minaj concert on GMA, the live East Coast feed of the concert regrettably included certain fleeting images of the performer that were taken out of later feeds of the broadcast in other time zones. We are sorry that this occurred.”
However, despite the quick release of a formal statement, the Parent Television Council took offense of this incident and released a formal statement as an answer to ABC’s apology. It states: “For the umpteenth time in recent memory a morning news show has included inappropriate content for children and families…Instead of asking for forgiveness, they need to stop apologizing and implement the five second delay that so many Americans have been calling for.”
Meanwhile, after her performance, Nicki Minaj didn’t appear affected by the incident at all. She even tweeted, “U guys just gave me LIFE. I love u Team Minaj! Words could never do this love justice! Thank u @Gma!!!!! Honored.”
Accidents really happen, especially if it is a live show. I guess the failure to do a dress rehearsal led to this wardrobe malfunction. Maybe next time the station or even the artist should approve of the wardrobe first and make sure it is appropriate to the audience and it is appropriate for the performance.
